Okay Here goes, tensions are pretty high in my household since the last computer perphiral(sp)? my parents bought wasn't linux compatible...anyway let me get right into it. My Dad bought a new Mini-DV camera(el-cheapo, because of short notice, old camera was robbed by some dickless piece of shit, while we were out of our house) the Camera is a Samsung SCD103, and it has a usb interface to download the movies from the Mini-DV tapes onto a PC, problem I cannot figure out how I am to do this, I have visited alot of websites..the video4linux project etc...mostly all i get is a run around to buy firewire and use that to convert the vids, I don't want to do that because it makes me look bad for installing an Operating system that needs so much. Does anyone have this camera and has gotten it to work under linux, or does anyone have a Mini-DV camera and know how to access from it linux, oh and this program called camstream, doesnt find the device....any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
aliiscool; take time to teach parents linux with easy soft approach. if they are W`s dependant it will be uphill . u did not specify who bought peripheral? u`r dad then he may have without knowledge that W& linux no mix (compatible). you have abit to teach. go to it!
I understand that I have to teach linux to my parents, btw my dad bought it, he is an old school DOS guy, doesn't like the CLI anymore..i still need to figure out how to get the camera to function on linux, and I'm not going to tell my parents, to scour the stores for linux compatible stuff or don't buy at all...because then my dad will just switch back to WindowsXP on which he can buy whatever he pleases and has it run easy. BTW I'd sorry i provided so much backstory just really need to know how to get this camera to functioN!
Wow, thanks buddy that is a source that i've already seen, You pretty much didn't read my post. I've looked into every possible source of information on the net...And its obvious that Mini-DV USB support is just not available.
By the way, if anyone ever asks about usb again, http://www.linux-usb.org/ it has a device listing, as well as links to various tools and help files.
