i am having bounce troubles with my wireless mouse. it affects the left button the most, the right button some, and the middle button hardly ever. the bounces are very fast, faster than i can do the clicking, myself (i timed them with "xev"). so i think there is a possibility to work around this in software by having button press and release events discarded if they happen too soon after the previous button press/release event, without losing my actual clicking efforts. i would tweak this timing until it is just right which should work OK unless the bounces become slower. is there any known settings or software that can do this?

i am currently using Xubuntu 18.04 LTS and a Logitech "Anywhere MX" 3 button wireless USB mouse.

Is this a new problem or has this mouse always bounced? This article suggests a couple of possible causes.

I would also recommend testing with a wired mouse, just to verify that the problem is confined to the wireless mouse. I'm certain it is, but will only take a couple of minutes to be certain.

it has been increasing over a few months. i suspect the button contacts are dirty. moving around works OK. new batteries make no difference. changing USB port makes no difference. a different mouse with a cord works perfectly. it's this mouse's buttons, all symptoms suggest. but cleaning this or finding a new one will take time, and the problem will likely come back because i eat crumbly crackers nearby.

or maybe it is this problem ... losing tension over time in a spring.

Are you saying you have a crumby mouse? (Sorry, couldn't resist. I like crackers too, and I move to the dinning room table for my snack.)

It might be an idea to use the wired mouse for the time being, as it's clear that your testing has identified the mouse itself as the culprit.

And I strongly suggest taking it seriously; I have had most of the issues described therein (at leat those that apply to optical and wirless mouses):

• fuzz on the laser
• bad surface!!! (too shiny, wrong color, not shiny enough... esp. with older models)
• bad connection, failing batteries

I will even add one:
Interference from other wireless devices.
I also suspect that the transmitter/receiver get weaker in time, or misaligned.

mice are cheaper now, so i just ordered a cheap $10 one made in China. almost works better ... middle button is integrated into the roller and that makes things roll when i am trying to paste in some text.

i can afford to buy a new one every year at that price.
