Red Hat 9.0 on Gateway Solo 2500 laptop

This is my first taste of Linux and I'm not sure of where to go. I just installed Red Hat 9.0 on my laptop, and it doesn't look like very many drivers are loaded. I am not 100% sure where to look (Device Manager in Windows) to see, either. I know that my internal modem is not installed, and doubt that it will be because I'm 99% sure it is a WinModem. It says that my video drivers are installed correctly, and I'm supposedly using the right drivers, but the display just doesn't look right. Again, first taste of Linux, but I know that with Windows, I had a MUCH better picture. Forgive me for the ignorance, I've just searched for days and have come up with nothing. I would like to hook the laptop to my cable modem eventually, so can anyone suggest a good, supported PCMCIA card? Thanks in advance.

Searching Google, I found the following for Winmodems:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO-2.html
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Winmodems-...nux-HOWTO.html

You may to search http://www.tuxmobil.org/howtos.html for info too. Searching the link for Winmodem I received a lot of hits. Also, may try searching using your modem name.

I not have a laptop with Linux installed so I'm not much help, but the mentione dlinks may point you in the correct direction..

Good luck

The picture is really grainy, the whole display isn't fitting on the whole screen, not crisp at all. If I were in Windows, I would say that the drivers weren't loaded or weren't working. Does that help?
