Random System Hangs (Due to HD problems? )

Hi all!! I am running Gentoo linux on kernel 2.6.5. I recently changed my motherboard and processor in my system. After I did this I recomiled the kernel with the necessary changes (primarily using Gentoo's kernel builder). The system appeared to work fine for a couple days, then all of a sudden hanging whenever large file manipulations occured. I ran e2fschk on my drive, and noticed that some CMA Drive errors started occuring in my log files. I replaced the hard drive thinking this was the cause of my problem, the errors went away but the system still hangs! It still continues to have the problem. I also replaced the IDE cable in this system as well as the power supply. Nothing seemed to do the trick.

Any ideas of what else I could try? I'm beginning to think its a software problem now with completely new hardware.

Here are my hdparams:
/dev/hda:
multcount = 16 (on)
IO_support = 1 (32-bit)
unmaskirq = 1 (on)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
geometry = 16383/255/63, sectors = 234493056, start = 0

And a speed test:
root@romeo jason # hdparm -Tt /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 1460 MB in 2.01 seconds = 727.93 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 176 MB in 3.03 seconds = 58.11 MB/sec

Please help!!!

OK, I don't know if this will help at all, but it worked for me...

I used to have random system hangs also, first with Fedora Core 1, and then with SuSE 9.1. I couldn't figure out what was causing this, but after checking /var/log/warn, I found an error refering to the bios on my NVidia video card. Oddly enough, after removing the card and then reinstalling it, my system has become a lot more stable.

I don't know if this will help, but this is just my $0.02.

hey thanks for your response pyro. . .

I don't seem to have a "warn" explicit log file but in my "messages" log file my system puts just about everything. Items of interest may be:

Nothing seems to jump out to me the second 2 a little more with the gx-suspmod and the NFORCE2 IDE controller one. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
