ps2 mouse under crux

i'm running crux 2.1 on a dell dimension 4100 series
i've got a regular old MS scroll wheel mouse in the ps2 port, but can determine where its mounted in crux.

can't get an Xsession running using "/dev/mouse" or "/dev/tty0" (the only conventions i've seen before), it will start if i use "/dev/psaux" but i still have no repsonse from the mouse.

i'm using Xorg version x11-6.8.2
and i have gpm 1.20.1 at my disposal was well, though i'm not having any better results with that

[edit]
mouse works fine under damnsmalllinux 1.2 (2.4 kernel, crux being 2.6)

only response from:
dmesg | grep mouse
is:
mice: ps/2 mouse device common for all mice
[/edit]

[thanks]

OK, this is far-fetched, but I've seen it happen once before... your mouse won't work under Linux if you have an IRQ conflict between it and some other device (for some reason, Windoze seems more able to handle this).

Try booting off a Knoppix disk, and if the mouse won't work there either, then check your IRQ settings.

hmm... its been fine under damnsmalllinux (debain/knoppix based) and also under fedora core 3.

i know dsl is a 2.4 kernel, i _think_ FC3 is as well (not sure) but crux 2.1 is 2.6

OK... didn't realize you'd had Linux on it before... sorry... like I said, my idea was pretty far-fetched to begin with... sorry I can't be more help.
