Preferred distro for the Asus eee?

I'm thinking of buying the 8G Asus eee.

I'm wondering what new users think of the default optimized distro that comes with it.

Has anybody dared to installed their own preferred distro? What has your experience been, regarding software?

I just wish I could customize this gadget to my liking, and that includes obviously my preferred distro and preferred software. Is it as easy as with other computers?

There are some special considerations because of the flash based drive, like no swap file, no logging..etc.. so it lives longer since flash has a limited number of writes.

Pretty much every distro can run on it, but there is some work involved. I believe someone on the Arch boards has made a special image for the eee.

You should take a look at the eee forum, and wiki where there are details of plenty of eee hacks and alternative installations.:

I've been looking at Linups Linux Lite. It look VERY similar to the default distro but as to weather it would prove to be a better distro I'm not sure. check out a screen shot on this weeks distro watch weekly http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20080107
