Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Portable external drive - encryption

I'm thinking of buying an external portable drive but am not sure whether I should go for some drives sold already with encryption functionalities or just a standard drive and then all the encryption would be done from the OS. I'm not much of an expert on either so asking for your advice.

The drive would only be accessed only from Linux machines

TIA

I personally do not like relying on hardware. My 2¢.

Troll?

cryptsetup will do just fine, given that you use a strong encryption method, then again if you got the money why bother? Say you will share the external drive with your wife.

Ok, thanks guys. I think I'm going to get a standard drive.
