I'm running a RAID5 on a megaware card, with 5 Intel 600GB 320 series SSDs.
Here are a couple of metrics to give you an idea -- 100M sequential write and read:
Code:
jameson@raid5system:~$ time dd if=/dev/zero of=trash.bin bs=1024 count=100000
100000+0 records in
100000+0 records out
102400000 bytes (102 MB) copied, 0.90293 s, 113 MB/s
real 0m0.930s
user 0m0.008s
sys 0m0.268s
jameson@raid5system:~$ time dd of=/dev/null if=trash.bin bs=1024 count=100000
100000+0 records in
100000+0 records out
102400000 bytes (102 MB) copied, 0.0950648 s, 1.1 GB/s
real 0m0.098s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.096s
If you have some particular workload and it's quick to run, I'd be happy to get back to you with the test result on this setup.
BTW, one of ten such disks I am overseeing has failed so far, but the failure rate is reportedly very low, below 1%.
