Smile " Northbridge error and ECC error showing when checked dmesg"

Hi,

I am getting ECC and Northbridge error in my redhat linux EL 5.6, when checked in dmesg. But I didnt see any issues in the hardware .But I am not sure about this error and I understand this is something related to the hardware issue when checked in google.But I didnt get enough idea on this to find out the root cause.

Please could someone help me to get clear understanding of this error also advice me whether it will impact my system performance?

Error details for the last three lines only in dmesg:
====================================================
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystems with ordered data mode.
Northbridge Error, node 2, core: -1
KB ECC error.

Regards,
Sujith

You're not getting a "BCC error", you're getting ECC errors from the Northbridge.

This error is related to your RAM modules. If you're using ECC Memory (and you probably are), you most likely have a defective RAM chip.

Other possible reasons for this error could be problems with the motherboard itself, wrong timing settings (aggressive overclocking, for instance), or you have ECC enabled but are using non-ECC RAM.

I'd recommend running Memtest86+.

ECC RAM does correct errors, but you should still check the ram using memtest and replace bad modules.

A reboot will do absolutely nothing. (this isn't a Window$ issue)
