Need help adjusting monitor screen area?

I just changed my driver to use the one that its supposed to under Xdisplay in KDE and now the darn screen is shifted half an inch over to the right, I have a kvm switch with my XP system and the problem is if i adjust the placement with the controls on the monitor I cannot get both systems to sync the placement of the screen on the monitor. I played around with other drivers and the resolution on both systems and I cannot get it. anyone have any ideas? I can almost get it if i switch the resolution to 640x480 on the XP system but i dont want that.. Im on Slack 9.1 video card is a Nvidia geforce3.

just use xvidtune to move it around and generate a modeline for you which you can then paste into your XF86Config

Uh oh... When i restart X the changes made with xvidtune do not stick, it reverts back to how it was. Am i doing something wrong? Should i be in root cuz if so i cannot start xvidtune in root only as a user. I get " cannot open display " when i try to as root at a console.

I fixed the problem by moving the screen over with Windows, So both Windows and Linux appear on the screen in sync now BUT!! now when i goto a console by using Ctrl-alt-f1, f6 the screen is shifted over half and inch so i cannot see the cusor or text over there. I tried xvidtune several times and it dosnt stick cuz when i reboot or restart X it reverts back to how it was. any way to get the Console and X in sync on the monitor without adjust the controls on the monitor or get xvidtune to hold the settings i choose?? Thanks
