I'm going to buy a new printer. The price doesn't matter. The only requirements are:
- Must be able to print colorpages
- Must be able to scan
- Must work in linux (duuuh)
I prefer NOT to have a laserprinter. A regular HP deskjet/PSC would be perfect.
Can anybody give me some advice on this one please?
There is a Printer category, and under that HP ... as well as other manufacturers. You can also search it. There are presently 111 products in the HP Printer category.
Entering "deskjet print scan" in the HP category yielded 3 results for me ...
Well, I browsed on the website of my computerstore first, to see what they had to offer. I think a HP Deskjet F4180 AiO would do just fine; however, I do not find it in the HCL... Does this mean that the HP Deskjet F4180 AiO is not supported?
No, that only means that someone has not submitted it to the LQ HCL. If I were you, I'd search <Linux> Google and The Linux Foundation before purchasing any printer.
I have and recommend the HP Officejet 5610 ... HP has generally been very Linux supportive the last couple years. Also, you can go to linuxprinting.org and check out their experience with specific makes and models
I have found that the problem with HCLs generally is that they're impossible to keep current. Most distros used to maintain one, but gave up long ago. I have added several items to the HCL here, but wouldn't really consider checking there first when I'm considering new hardware. It's much easier and more reliable to simply google the exact make and model with the word "linux" and you generally get a spectrum of current observations.
