Mousewheel able to go left/right as well as up/down

Hi, I have a Microsoft mouse which has a wheel that can be pushed left and right as well as rolled up and down. Is there some easy way of getting this to work by adding a couple of lines to my XF86Config-4 or would it require more effort than that? I don't know where to start, but since I'm not too dependant about this feature, I'm not going to bother with it unless it's easy to configure.

So, does anybody know the procedure? Thanks .

just a guess but...

Try Option "Buttons" "7"
And Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"

Then run X, and then run xev, try fiddling with all your buttons (scroll counts as buttons) and see the output, then xmodmap -e to suit your taste.

Thanks, but I'm afraid I'm still having trouble. xev isn't showing any events when I push the wheel left/right. It's showing events fine for everything else though, including mousewheel up/down. Any suggestions?
