Modem - No device found

Help please....

I installed redhat linux 7.2 in compaq presario 1700T. No other OS. This notebook got HSF conexant modem. I got the driver for this modem from conexant website. Compiled and installed it sucessfully. /dev/modem is linked to /dev/ttyHSF0.

Now, when I try to access the modem through minicom or cat command or any other dialer, I get error message "No device found". There is no clash with major number of this device to anyother device.

what should be the problem... ? Any comments!!!

Thanks.

Try to configure the modem setting with

kppp

My linuxconfig could not find the device ( internal lucent winmodem which had a linux driver) . But when I dialed with kppp ( a dial up kde peogram) and did some setting it worked
