Rep:
lucent winmodem + linux
i have a lucent technologies 56k winmodem., the lspci reports the following:
00:0d.0 Communication controller:Lucent Microelectronics 56k WinModem (rev 01)
You'd be much happier with a hardware modem. They are faster, use less resources and are more reliable.
Since you have a Lucent chipset modem you may have to struggle with it to get it to work but you should be able to do it. Connexant chipset modems are much easier to set up.
I've actually had no problems with my linmodem, thanks to the efforts of those at linmodems.org. But currently I'm toying around with vgetty and this modem doesn't seem to be cooperating. Back to Google!
I have been trying to find a "real" modem for ages... although I have not had much problem with my winmodem (in windows that is) I am alway for a hardware controlled piece of, er, hardware...
So guys, tell me, what modems should I be looking out for.
