Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Irda Devices in Linux

I've used Linux for 4 or so years now (Mandrake, Gentoo, and now Kubuntu).

When it comes to major issues I've had with switching (audio, stability, Dell DJ connectivity, Samba problems, etc.) I've been able to resolve all them.

One of my final problems is this: I have a Hauppauge Wintv radio model 401. While I can get it to play the TV no problem in tvtime w/ Kubuntu 5.04, I can't get the IR remote to work. It is an extremely complicated process so install the kernel modules and then get them to work properly.

Are any distros working on having better IR support, or do any already exist?

This is a major hurdle for me in terms of ditching windows.

Thanks.

You are better off trying to get IrDA to work with your distro since everything else works.
My Kanotix install uses modules;
irda 116920 1 stir4200
crc_ccitt 1792 1 irda
sigmatel usb irda.

Most likely another distro wont have everything working for your system out of the box but if you like debian unstable try Kanotix...the live cd recognises alot if not everything and the debian install option on the installer is too easy.
