Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of building a Linux system, and I was planning to use an integrated motherboard to save costs. More specifically, the Asus A7N266-E. This board has a graphics and sound chip built onto it -- normally I prefer separate cards, but since this system will not need to be a multimedia powerhouse (I basically just want to be able to run X), I was going with this solution.

Has anyone out there had any experience with integrated motherboards with Linux? Were there any compatibility issues? Any suggestions as to where I could get additional info?

Ah heck, I just looked it up. Most boards with integrated video are a pain, but one with Nvidia! Now we're talkin' Nvidia does Linux support with drivers, straight off their website, so check there.

The NIC is a realtek 8139, currently the most generic NIC on the market, I think it may have outstripped the Tulip in shear ubiquity. 8139too module, supported for ages.

The Sound bothers me, Asus ACR audio module, never heard of it, but odds are it either means A) we switch this around by whats cheapest that afternoon. or B) Its something else, but we put this generic label here.

Either way its probably supported, and if it isn't a good sound card these days will only drop another $20 on top of the lot.

The one thing that makes me nervous is that I've not heard of these nvidia north and south bridges. You might want to www.google.com/linux like MrGee said, but for the bridge names.

I have a MSI board with the same chipset, I hated the sound so I got an audigy, and I could only get the sound to work properly in KDE using Nvidia's driver, I've heard that some of the other companies use different ethernet chips, but mine works fine. I could only get the video to work with Nvidia's drivers too. If you use it, be ready to do some work without X for a while
