Installing LILO from host system to hdb to boot as hda in target system
Hello all,
First I will just say that I am a Linux newbie. Now that that's out of the way...
I'm trying to get a disk on module (IDE FLASH drive) to boot as the primary drive in a target system. Currently, on the host, I have Red Hat running from a primary IDE drive. The DOM is connected as the primary slave. I have partitioned the DOM and copied the system files over to it -- at least I think I have with a cp -a command. I have been reading books and reams of google search results on how to install LILO on the DOM, but nothing is working. I have gotten as far as LILO booting up to LI on the DOM. I'm not sure if that means that LILO has been installed on the DOM and can't find something, or if LILO was improperly installed or both.
Here is my tlilo.conf file:
boot=/dev/hdb
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
disk=/dev/hdb
bios=0x80
prompt
timeout=50
linear
read-only
default=rtlinux
I had lilo version 21 installed on the host system when I was first trying this. After reading the LILO section in "Building Embedded Linux Systems" I saw that the autor recommends using version 22.3 or better. So, I went out and got the latest version and tried to build it on my host but got a message saying that as86, bd86, and BCC was not present. So, downloaded the LILO binary and just copied LILO to my /mnt/sbin directory and tried to run the following command:
./lilo -r /mnt -C /mnt/etc/tlilo.conf -t -v -v
I realize this is a test run, but I get this error message:
Fatal: Cannot open: /mnt/etc/tlilo.conf
I've been doing this for a few days and feel that I'm missing some fundamental concepts.
Were you able to get DOM working with linux like this or some other method. I am currently in the same situation and would like to know if you have found the solution, could you help?
Thanks in advance

I am sure, its too late reply for Mike. I dont thing my reply will help for Mike. But for Narendraksaini, i hope it will be useful.
Are you trying to install LILO on your DOM? Why you should not use Grup? I tried stand alone RTAI RTLinux in my DOM with LILO first. But I got some problems with LILO. Then I tried GRUP in my DOM and booted successfully. Hope this link will be useful, if you are trying to create a stand alone RTAI system on DOM, http://asprakash.wordpress.com/2009/...e-rtai-system/
Or you are facing different issues, please mention in detail.
