installing a 200 GB hard drive with Debian 3.1

I wanting to add a Maxtor 200 GB hard drive on my Compaq computer. It's P3, 800 MHZ. I've never found the model. I figure the BIOS will not handle this drive. Is there a BIOS overlay that will work with Debian 3.1, Kernal 2.4.27? The one from Maxtor says it works with Windows but I can't find one for Linux on their site.

Just add the drive, Linux will handle it without BIOS' assistance.

Generally, as Emerson pointed out, you should be able to install it with no problem. If that fails, have you tried the capacity limiting jumper most large drives have? Linux will still be able to detect it at the full size. (Linux almost never asks the BIOS about drives).

Using it as a boot drive might pose some issues, however.
