Inspiron 6000+SuSE 10.0 successes? hardware support, 3D etc.
Hello, I was wondering If anyone out there has tried installing SuSE 10 on a dell inspiron 6000. I'm getting one in the next couple days and just wondering if its practical to even try to run linux on it. Its the model with the ATI X300 in it. I've heard nothing but horror stories about getting 3D enabled on ATI cards which I suppose isnt a huge deal as I'm not planning to play games on it. But does not having 3D enabled limit anything else such as DVD playback or any other multi-media? Also if you've installed SUSE on it does it handle the KDE gui well speed wise? Its got a 1.6 pentium centrino and 512MB of RAM. I'm getting it as a desktop replacement, I wont be depending on the battery life much so ACPI isnt a big deal. I'll mostly just be using multi media aps like K3B, XMMS, Xine, Grip or chatting with friends. .nothing terribly demanding. Basically will I spend days just trying to get my hardware to work? I've been using Suse on and off sense 8.2 so I'm not clueless but I've only worked with desktops with common (nvidia) hardware so I'm almost scared to try to put SuSE 10 on this thing. .
