I have a similar problem. I have a usb keyboard that worked fine under RH 7.1 but doesn't work under suse 9.1. Yast knows it's there and says it's tied to /dev/input/event3, but when I cat that file and press the keys nothing happens. The usb mouse works fine even if it's plugged into the hub in the keyboard.
