HP PSC1610 + HPLIP + scan don't work

Hello all:

I have a HP PSC1610 All in One in a SuSE 9.3

PHLIP installed (trough compilation) is 0.9.5

Thanks to the tutorial of HPLIP web I can compile and install. Now I can open HP Device Manager with full support for printer (is configured at CUPS with URI and in YAST with URI too).

Scaner is configured at YAST.

But its imposible to make works the scaner. When I try Scan at HP Device Manager, XScan say me:

I read fully the thread "hplip 0.9.3 problems on Slackware 10.1" at Slackware section (found with Search) but the scaner don't work.

Had the same problem on fedora with a hp 1310...used xsane and it worked.

I tried xsane (is the program that launch HP Device Manager) and I obtain the error message of my first post.

Hello,
If slackware is similar to fedora you will need to install the printer in the cups printing manager. In fedora this is accessed through the web browser. Once the printer is installed through cups you should be able to scan through xsane or a similar program.

Sorry for the days without answer. My motherboard was dead.

I have the printer configured in CUPS manager through http://localhost:631 before I write the post and don't work scanner.

I see the all the hp drivers in your info you should just need to configure SANE.
use the run command from the menu and type xsane. when the program opens you should see your psc, if not add the printer. in mine there is a button for that.
after it is added to sane you will need to run xsane to scan the hp manager doesnt work (for me anyway) xsane works perfectly.

Hello again:

I try the next:

- Remove hplip 0.95 with ./configure --prefix=/usr & make uninstall & make clean
- Remove second version in conflict of hplip and hpijs version 0.88 with Yast
- Delete all files and directories remaining with search "hplip" and "hpijs"
- Reboot computer

Now I have a clean system.

Then:

- Turn on printer
- Cancel the notification of Yast about New hardware detected.
- Build the new version of hplip 0.96 with ./configure --prefix=/usr & make & make install
- Restart hplip and cups
- Type "hp-makeuri -busb /dev/usb/lp0"
- Configure PSC1610 with YAST with Other, Other Configuration, Other printers (define URI)
- Configure PSC1610 in CUPS at http://localhost:631/ and choosing route /dev/usb/lp0, connection URI and model HP PSC 1600 series

I start HP Device Manager and scanner don't work.

Then I'll go to YAST to configure scanner:

- Select Other
- Try HP Most OfficeJet, PSC etc (printer,scaner, copier) with hpaio(hplip)

When I click Next appears a message that say:

hplip is not installed. It will install now.

The message have a counter of 10 seconds with buttons Stop, Accept, Cancel

If I hit Cancel appears an error message "hplip is needed and must be installed" and after other message "hpaio controller requires hplip"

Seems that the system don't know that hplip 0.96 is installed.

I run SuSEconfig but nothing.

Anyone have ideas?

Hello,
I have Fedora core 3. In my system when I call the HP Device Manager and click the scan button it calls my scanning program (which is xsane). It does not use a HP scanner. It sounds like you have the drivers installed correctly and correctly configured in Yast. I would check to see what (if any) scan program you have in Suse. If none go to xsane.org and download xsane.

I have sane 1.0.16-0.pm.5 and xsane 0.97-3

HP Device Manager always launch xsane. But always I have the error message:

One thing, the dependencies with ghostscript are broken now, because I desinstalled hplip-hpijs 0.8.8-10 (how I say in the last post, hplip 0.8.8 and hplip-hpijs 0.8.8)

This version have /usr/bin/hpijs 0.8.8

I see that in /usr/bin I have a version of hpijs of hplip 0.9.6

What you think about desinstall ghostscript? Is necesary?

This dependencies and the system that don't know what installed packages have, turn me crazy.

And now, printer say me that color cartridge is incompatible... Argggggg

Hello

I had some problems to get the scanner-side working but eventually I got it working with hpoj. (not with the hplip, which I use for printing). So basicly every time I use scanner I install hpoj and after I'm done I remove it because when hpoj installed the normal printing doesn't work.

If anyone know how to get scanning and printing working together let me know too.

when you run sane does the printer show in the scanning window? If not you have to add it to sane. Here is the link I used to get this printer working

Between the instructions there and the sane configuration instructions the printer both prints and scans

I can see this URL every times, but I am lost.

The error with color cartridge is a bug. Updating firmware is the solution.
