how to test video card performance

Hi,

I was wondering how to test video card performance and how to assess if it's
good or bad? I guess I need a numerical value for what I think is poor behavior
as well as suggestions for improvement.

I have ATI Radeon 7500 card on 2Ghz, 1GB RAM Dell Optiplex GX240 loaded with
RedHat 9.0 (kernel 2.4.20-19.9smp; XFree86-4.3.0-2). While I am not sure where to look for drivers, the only one I see is
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ati_drv.o

In particular, I am using Geomview and am not too happy with loading/rotating speed - but in order to get it working I had to comment "load dri" in /etc/X11/XF86Config.

Thanks!

Masha

P.S. as per moderator's suggestion, here is the output of "/sbin/lspci"

See if you have a program called glxgears
Just load up whatever Window manager you have, load xterm and type glxgears

Hi and thanks on the fast response.

Here is the ouput(I still do not know what to compare it to):
-----------------------------
>glxgears
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
1588 frames in 5.0 seconds = 317.600 FPS
1763 frames in 5.0 seconds = 352.600 FPS
1833 frames in 5.0 seconds = 366.600 FPS
1833 frames in 5.0 seconds = 366.600 FPS
1833 frames in 5.0 seconds = 366.600 FPS
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

The results that you listed looks like you are using software 3D rendering. Read more documentation to get hardware 3D rendering going.

Good luck.
