how to bring up modules at startup

hii ..
i have FC3 ... which file is responsible for deciding which modules will be brought up at boot ...
i dont have following files
/etc/modprobe.preload
/etc/modules

i have /etc/modprobe.conf
but i guess it doesnt serve much purpose other than aliases ..... or maybe it does ..

so finally i wish to ask .. how do i bring up module at boot without adding something like modprobe in rc.local coz tht chokes my comp .. is there any proper way ?

plzz help

thnks in advance

With a 2.6 kernel you add them in /etc/modprobe.conf; with a 2.4 use /etc/modules.conf. In either you can modprobe through rc.local or rc.modules; it should not be any problem there. Not sure what you are referring to with that.
