glxgears exits with error message

I have a radeon mobility x700. Direct rendering works ok. But when I started glxgears 1st time I saw the gears for one second or so and then it exited with:
Code:
$ glxgears
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
*********************************WARN_ONCE*********************************
File radeon_mm.c function radeon_mm_alloc line 216
Ran out of GART memory!
Please consider adjusting GARTSize option.
***************************************************************************
Error: Could not get dma buffer... exiting
2nd time it kept running, but still:

$ glxgears
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b

Any idea, anyone? What's wrong with my DMA?
And where would I adjust my GARTSize option?

I poked around in the kernel configuration and when I searched for DMA, the most promising entry I found was:

Symbol: DMA_ENGINE [=n] │
│ Prompt: Support for DMA engines │
│ Defined at drivers/dma/Kconfig:7 │
│ Location: │
│ -> Device Drivers │
-> DMA Engine support

But it isn't at -> Device Drivers.

here's my glxinfo, just for the record:
Code:

Try running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg & make sure all of those settings are ok.

Searching gave me this:
