Getting a Realtek 8192S wireless chipset to work
I run Slackware (updated daily) with the latest kernel, currently 2.6.35.4. I bought a new wireless USB adaptor which has a Realtek 8192S chipset. Linux has a driver in staging that won't work for me. I downloaded the source for the latest Linux driver from Realtek; it loads, creates an entry in /proc/net/dev (wlan4) but acts oddly (won't monitor with aircrack, returns odd readings to iwlist) and won't connect where I can make a connection in Windoze lsusb returns:
0bda:8172 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8191S WLAN Adapter
I read the message when the kernel's driver loads that tells me not to expect drivers in 'staging' to work, but has anyone had any luck with this?
