Genius WebCAM,spcaview says "wrong device"

Hi,
I have a Genius WebCAM Look USB camera plugged in my laptop(HP nx9105 with Gentoo Linux 2007.0,core 2.6.21-r4,KDE 3.5.7).During the installation of this piece of hardware,I`ve resolved that driver gspca doesnt work ,but kernel driver sn9c102 does. When I compiled this one as a module, then plugged a USB cable from camera, the green light on top of the camera lights. Here is my short post of LSMOD command :

lsmod
Module Size Used by
sn9c102 98060 0
compat_ioctl32 5248 1 sn9c102
videodev 27648 1 sn9c102
v4l1_compat 15748 1 videodev
v4l2_common 18048 2 sn9c102,videodev
sdhci 19596 0
mmc_block 10376 0
tifm_sd 13832 0
mmc_core 25988 3 sdhci,mmc_block,tifm_sd
tun 11520 0
pl2303 21508 0
usbserial 28196 1 pl2303
vmmon 166988 0
nvidia 4708820 22

... as it see, everything about the loading and unloading modules is correct. But when I try to run SPCAVIEW I got this message :

spcaview
Spcaview version: 1.1.7 date: 06:11:2006 (C) mxhaard@magic.fr
Initializing SDL.
SDL initialized.
bpp 3 format 15
Using video device /dev/video0.
Initializing v4l.
**************** PROBING CAMERA *********************
wrong device

.. a also try run xawtv -c /dev/video0 but what I got from it was only small window with black background but any picture from camera.So,pls... where is fault ?? I searched over internet for this kind of problem but im not capable to read something in azbuka or chinese.Could anybody help??? Thanx for help .. IDE

Genius Look is on list of gspca supported devices, but maybe there are multiple versions with the same name. Run command 'lsusb' to get the Product ID of the camera and check it against the gspca list at

http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html

Otherwise you can check for compatibility reports here:

http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/

As a further check that the sn9c102 driver is working you should try unplugging the camera, plugging it back in and running the 'dmesg' command. The last few lines should show if the camera is correctly identified and associated with the driver.

If everthing is OK, then you can look at finding a viewer application which works. I think gspcaview may only work with the gspca driver.

hmm...

... lsusb says : ID 0c45:60b0 Microdia and this one isnt in compatibility list. Whole name of this piece of sh.t is Genius WebCam Look 312p(300k??).But im wondering that if i do what ju supposed me to do,dmesg says :

new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4
configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
SN9C103 PC Camera Controller detected (vid/pid 0x0C45:0x60B0)
OV7630 image sensor detected
Initialization succeeded
V4L2 device registered as /dev/video0
Optional device control trough 'sysfs' interface disabled.

... it looks like correct for me,doesnt ?Light on camera signs on ... so any other solution? So Ill try the GSPCAVIEW but i doubt if it helps.

If you google the product ID 0C45:60B0 you will see people complaining about this in a variety of languages. It looks like there was some work on it but I can't tell if it was successful.

Anyway it looks like you have the right driver (or at least the best there is).

This search shows a couple of webcam apps that might be worth trying. One is specifically for the sn9c102 driver with v4l2. Some drivers will only work with applications written for video4linux2 (v4l2) so that might be your best bet.
