geforce (black screen) after installing drivers

ok ive done this a few times now, i have mandrake 9.1
i installed the nvidia drivers and it all went fine, the default XF86Config seemed to have a lot of things missing from it than what it usually does so i ran XF86Config and set it all up

i then edited the file and changed the driver to nvidia added Load glx.

i didnt need to remove
Load dri
and
Load glcore
as they were not in the file (readme tell you to do this)

when i startx it just get a black screen can anything think why?

Check the log as to why:

/var/log/XFree86.0.log

It probably locked onto a horiz and vert setting that your monitor couldn't do and instead of cycling up to a higher setting your monitor just null displayed in order to not fry.

You might want to hand set HorizSync and VertRefresh in the Monitor Section of you XF86Config file by hand.

Also, CTRL+ALT+backspace should whack X and get you back to a prompt if you don't know that one.

Cheers,

Finegan
