Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Fibre Tape drives seen, but /dev/st* not being created @ boot (RHEL AS4)

Hiya,

Pretty new to RH, come from solaris

I've need to configure in some (ADIC iscalar 2000) fibre tape drives, it appears the OS can see the drives :

(/proc/scsi/scsi)

Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi3 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi3 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi3 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi3 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
Vendor: ADIC Model: Scalar i2000 Rev: 4462
Type: RAID ANSI SCSI revision: 03

But I cannot seem to get /dev/st* populated.. I found the /dev/MAKEDEV st command can do this, but again, after reboot they don't stay !

Any guidance appreciated..

Ta

I've had this issue before with fibre tape drives. I setup a custom script to run at bootup so it's recognized each time.
