Error: No boot disc ha been detected or the disc has failed?
I have an HP Slimline 334-400 PC and until recently it had on it: LinuxMint 17.3, elementary OS, Mageia 5, Antergos and Manjaro.
I had intended to add "PCLinuxOS" to the other distros, but in my effort to be clever, I screwed it up most royally. At the point where I am to partition PCLinuxOS, I decided ti try something which had worked with my "Dell Dimension 9100", and that was clear all the partitions and start 'fresh'. Problem was my Dell was of the old school 'BIOS" and the HP was of the 'UEFI' (if I got the initials right?)
I set it with a EFI/Partion, a Swap Partition, and a / Partition for the PCLinuxOS.
It went through the installation apparently fine then at its end I was asked to reboot and remove the installation disc at the appropriate moment. I did all that but I was not greeted with a PCLinuxOS screen but with something unexpected:
ERROR: No boot disc has been detected or the disc has failed."
I spent a couple hours, more or more trying to install any of the ones I had on the HP before but each time I ended up with what you see above.
It was fortunate I still had my "Dell" I disconnected the HP and reconnected the Dell. The Dell has its own issues, but a least I can post this and hope someone can help.
I wonder if it requires a Windoze .efi - what a pox if so. Removing Windows partitions won't remove the EFI directory for it, so you may have been ok prior to scrubbing the disk.
Just a guess - have a read of the last section of this. Not that I'd normally recommend the UEFI shell - might be easiest to pull the disk out and use the Dell to just copy the bootx64.efi.

Reason: cleanup
It required "FAT32 efi" On a few of the distros I tried adding the "FAT32" but each time I would be facing the gobblygook.
The HP originally came with Windows 8.1 loaded. I have recovering discs and am considering using them as a very last resort.
On the HP I have a slew of distros or at least one, I am not so sure on that?
When you mention 'pulling the disc out' are you referring to the installation disc? Let us say, I copy the "boot64.efi", and let's say I do that with the other distros. How will that hep me be able to use the newer HP?
You should be able to use a modern live media booted to see what state it is in. I assume that since you wiped the drive then only the pclinuxos would be on it. According to this post, the latest distro fully supported his uefi bios with a simple install. He noted that grub loader was not mentioned. http://www.zdnet.com/article/install...llent-release/
Since you have had other distro's installed to the hp then I'd think that it should be easy to install. The problem seems to stem from wiping the disk. I'll need to check what goes on for that. Maybe some re-initialization. Wonder if the disk is being recognized as uefi. http://unix.stackexchange.com/questi...k-for-uefi-gpt
The boot message only seems to suggest that some bootable media is not found after going through the boot order. Guess I should ask if you checked that.
I have the HP connected. I was unsuccessful installing PCLinuxOS, I could not evein get it to go through the motion of installation. I then decided to try and install AntergosOS. I went through the steps and as with PCLinuxOS, those first times. Antergos appears to be installed. I have not rebooted because I am worried, I will get the same reaction as before and if it happens I am back to square Q.
Well, there is no point in wasting any more time, this Antergos will either be installed or it won't? Preceeding to where I am , I did all I had done before I made the error with PCLOS, and tried to start fresh, a big mistake now.
