Moved: This post is more suitable in <Hardware> and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

I moved this into its own thread---please don't jump into existing threads with something that is really a new question.

When you install the printer, you will be asked if you want to specify a driver. Simply browse to the one you downloaded, and select it. (You might have to untar first) What you are looking for is a filename ending in ".ppd"

I find that the best printer management is the CUPS web interface---just enter "localhost:631" in a browser.

I also just used the CUPS web interface and the ppd from the downloaded samsung drivers. after you extract the unified driver, which creates the cdroot dorectory, the ppd's are in the folowing location

./cdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share/ppd$

using this method my Samsung printers have been running great with Linux both at work and home.
