DRI stops after reboot (slack10.1, mach64)

Well, this originally started with this thread:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=289285

Here is the issue. Twice now I've gotten DRI to work on my laptop, and both times after I rebooted there was no joy. I have the problem narrowed down to libGL not loading properly. Xorg is initializing the DRI, but no libGL statements in glxinfo. Yesterday I was following the troubleshooting page on freedesktop.org, and "relinked" (is that a word?) /usr/local/lib/libGL.so.1 to /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.5.060300. After that it worked, and I figured I had the problem solved. When I got home after work, and fired the laptop up again, I again had no direct rendering. I double checked the link I had setup on my lunch hour, and it was still intact. Should I have done something else to "save" the configuration? If this were my desktop, I would futz with it until it worked, then never reboot. As this is a lappy that is almost never more than fifty feet away from me, that isn't much of an option. Any advice at all would be very appreciated.

Alright, I've found a workaround of sorts. What I have to do is reinstall the common dri libs snapshot, then restart X. DRI works consistently that way, but it's still a pain to have to do that every time. I could put the install script in my startup, but I shouldn't need to. Its pretty frustrating, but I guess that's what I'll do until I find a better way.
