Do Cannon EOS cameras work with Linux? (mainly EOS 350D)

Hello,
I saw a few threads here about this, but I still want to ask:

What would I have difficulty with when using an Canon EOS camera on Linux?

Will I be able to open the raw format?

Will it be possible (or needed) to establish a connection between Linux and a cannon camera?

Thanks,
Guy

A quick google search reveals this in the HCL section on this very website which says it does guess I should have just looked in there first.

Sorry, I guessed I was using the wrong search phrases.

I guess the answer is no ..

And what about this one?:

Is it possible to remote-control it under linux (or at all)?

I am asking because I might need it for astrophotography.

I don't know why you guess that. The HCL link you were referred to says it works fine. Gphoto has drivers for both that one and the D70s, so I would assume both work fine.

I see you need hands off usage then so no it does not look like the remote works however you should check to see if it has what is called cable release option for the shutter this is a cable that screws in the shutter button you press the plunger in the cable and it fires the shutter now I am not sure if you can get this with digital cameras or not but it was a pretty standard feature in most all 35mm SLR cameras.

I am not sure that these models have a cable release. That's why I thought the USB might make life easier.

I would like however first had experience here (from any camera), since drivers are the kind of thing that is constantly updated.
