disable motherboard speaker?

I am using a relatively old computer that has a motherboard speaker. The speaker beeps can sometimes be quite annoying and I would like to disable it. The computer is running Debian Sarge 3.1.

Thanks in advance.

The beep is controlled by the kernel with the kernel module pcspkr. Beeps at startup are controlled by the BIOS.
