Is there some form of cable to connect laptop to my PC to transfer files? USB seems to be only one way. Laptop only has floppy drive, so unreliable and inconvenient for larger files; internet connection not available to Email things.
You can't simply connect the usb port of one computer to that of another. You need a hardware usb device that is designed particularily for that. If you have an ethernet port, you could use a cross-over cable. If you only have a usb port, and not even a pcmcia port, I think you could find a usb-ethernet device. Other than that, an external usb drive would allow indirect transfers.
Okay, I will get this USB to USB "A to A" cable thing. Question: The laptop is USB 1.1 and the desktop computer is USB 2.0. Is this gonna cause problems with transfer (besides being slow)? I mean, there are cables listed for use with USB 1.1 and cables for 2.0: is a USB 2.0 A to A cable going to be backwards compatible with the USB 1.1 drive in my laptop or is the USB 2.0 drive in my PC going to be backwards compatible with a USB 1.1 A to A cable?
