My deskjet3755 'prints' on my slack15 system but the results are erratic. I'm not experienced with printer software but eventually I discovered that the .run software for the printer (the driver, I guess) crashes on my system. I presume that the printer is just not going to function properly unless I can solve this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, jwc
BTW this printer does work satisfactorily with windows. The HP help people that I have encountered are not interested is solving problems involving linux.
What distro? slackware15: -- the iso file was downloaded from alien bob's website and it has been running on my pc for a week or so.
What version of HPLIP do you have installed? 3.22.10
How did you configure the printer? That's my problem. I tried to run the driver and it crashed.
HP's support for printers is very good, possibly the best available, so I would be vaer surpriesed if you can not get it working as expected.
Answer: I have used a few hp printers in the past that seemed to set up automatically. This is the first printer that I have had trouble getting to function properly. It runs under windows but I rarely use windows and getting the necessary software to run on my linux os has so far been a headache. After working with it for a while I got to the point of trying to get the '.run' software (that shows up during the hplip process, and I presume is the driver for the printer) to run but it crashes. That is the problem that I am trying to solve.
The printer is connected to the internet and it does print but getting a document from another source, such as the online newspaper does not work properly.
I assume the run file is the hplip installation script downloaded from their website. It does not appear that hplip supports the printer but since it is an ipp everywhere printer there technically isn't a driver. The specifications indicate the printer supports pcl 3 but do not know if there is a compatible legacy color printer that uses pcl 3.
I have read that any printer that requires a ppd or special driver will eventually no longer be supported by cups. No idea if slack supports ipp everywhere.
Since this is a IP only printer, find its IP address, and see if you can connect through your web browser.
The line would look like this; http://192.169.xxx.yyy/631 If it is IP only, you should get a connection. My HP connects this way, has lots of configration to available.
If you don't know the IP address of the printer, nmap can help identify it.
