D-Link DWL-G520 Desktop Adapter (PCI)

Hi everyone,

I've seen a number of threads on this card, and following the advice, I'm still a newbie, I've tried to make the changes to mak it work.

Knoppix is the only Linux I've found that reconized this card, so I installed the Debian GNU/Linux to my hard drive. It recognized my card and my network, but no matter what I've done, it can't find a local IP address.

I've heard some mention of adding a static IP address. What file do I update to make that happen, or could there be another solution?

All the best,

MC

It uses the madwifi driver (it has the atheros chipset, or at least the rev. B does) and you will need the "wireless-tools" package.

You will probably have to put in your ESSID, WEP key, and then run dhcp for it. You can use this:

Code:
iwconfig ath0 essid whateveryouressidis
iwconfig ath0 key whateveryourkeyis
dhcpcd ath0 (or whatever dhcp client you use)
Depending on your distro, you will have to find out where to put the startup config. In gentoo, it is in /etc/conf.d/wireless.

The gentoo wiki has a great how-to for this if you use Gentoo. For other distro's just check their forums or wikis.
