I've never used Linux before. I DL'ed the ISO from Mandrake's site(mandrake 9.1) and installed them on a 10 gig harddrive. I also have a 120 gig with XP installed on it(which is what I'm on now). I have a MSI K7N2-L MotherBoard and cannot figure out how to get the ethernet to work so I can get online. It has the nForce 2 setup in it.
I have never used Linux before and would need step by step help as to installing this.
Don't know about mandrake - might be included but it doesn't sound like it.
You go to http://www.nvidia.com and download the drivers for the chipset in the Linux section and install them.
I don't know how to install it. I ran the thing in the KDE desktop mode thing. It says that the drivers are installed. but it can't find the "working"
I don't know what's going on. It says that the drivers have been previously installed when I try to install them(which I did install them, but it doesn't see the ethernet or something like that.)
When I try the "newtork 7 Internet configuration" under LAN, I get this. I click on the LAN connection and hit next and it flashes this in the next screen, and then pops me back to the same netwrok and internet configuration screen that I was at before.
Installing driver for network/main|gigabit|usb|pmcia card Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 MCP Networking adapter
It flashes that for about 1/2 sec.
Have you ever had this problem?
I won't be back for a couple of hours, so thanks for your help guys
but that doesn't sound right.Basically you get a couple of new modules for the kernel installed with the nvidia drivers.
You'll have to make sure those get loaded, too.Best route is probably to go to a terminal as root and follow the steps in the nvidia readme - forget about the kde thing.
After that you might have to reboot - don't know about mandrake and the routines to activate modules there.Just have a good look at the readme at nvidia or install gentoo - emerge nvidia-kernel ;-)
I wouldn't say that
(By the way... me drools with OS X also.. have you done shift+minimize button on a window? That made my friend flip out )
The way I see it, even after just looking at linux and the Command line(even after 5 installs for me to get it to dual boot with XP Pro) it is cool to think that you can actually do something yourself. I got a problem with my Ethernet also, but hope that I will be able to stop booting back into XP once I get my network to start working agian
