Cnet V.92 modem in Red Hat 9.0

I've never configured a dialup at Linux, but now I have a friend who has a computer with Red Hat 9.0 on it and he has an external Cnet V.92 modem. The problem is that it doesn't dial at all.. I configured the dialup con. with kppp and it finds the modem, ir goes from "modem prepared" to "initializing modem" and just stay there forever... it never dials...

I know that linux get respone from the modem because if I unplug it it says "modem does not respond".

Anybody knows what can be the problem??

You know what? I just tried the damn modem on a xp box and it also doesn't works... I think the modem is broken... I'll change it tomorrow at the store and see what happens....Thanks
