Changing resolution and hertz redhat

Hello guys.

I currently purchased a Dell W3000 LCD TV. I hooked it up to my redhat 9 system and when it boots up into the login screen it tells me that there is an error and I need to change the resolution to 1280 by 1024 @ 60hz.

I'm able to login threw the terminal by pressing Ctl + Alt + F1. How do i change the resolution and frequency threw there?

Thank you very much for you help. Seriously!

You'll want to look at your X Configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf for x.org)

You should use a text editor. If you haven't of the man command you should hear about it.

"man vi"
try that command it should give a description the editor called VI and how to use it.
press "q" of "esc" to quit. The other thing I would recommend is get your self a book(about linux) if you don't have one.

Have not used RH in awhile, however, you should just re-run X configuration instead of trying to manually edit that file for now. Try in root:

# xf86config
or
# Xconfigurator <--- I think this is old RH...

hi there, first of u must backup ur /etc/X11/XFree86 file. then delete this file . then change to runlevel 3. there execute the command "redhat-config-Xfree86".it should work.now return to runlevel 5.that should do. i will explain the commands in order,
1) cp -f /etc/X11/XFree86 /etc/X!!/XFree86.bck
2) cd /etc/X11
3) rm -f XFree86
4)runlevel 3
5) redhat-config-XFree86
now you can change ur settings when a screen appear for that.
6) runlevel 5.
i hope this would help u. click on the thanks button if it worked.
