Okay, got a new printer, a Canon iP2600. They have linux drivers available on their website. I downloaded it and installed the driver. The printer shows, but when I try to print, it does nothing. I'm not too knowledgable with troubleshooting printers, so I came here for advice. Using openSUSE 11 x86_64.
Also, I had to install the i586 version of popt to satisfy the dependencies, even though the x86_64 version of popt was already installed.
It was the only one available, and it was 32-bit. I was thinking that might have something to do with it, but there's 32-bit apps that work on 64-bit linux, like using the 32-bit Fiirefox so Java works. Let me see if I can find a tar ball and install from source.
Well, found the common package in tarball, cnijfilter-common-2.90-1.tar.gz. After decompression, configure isn't found and make is returning:
make[1]: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
I am not very good with the tarball installations, I know I can pass variables on the make command, but I can't find any documentation online for this specific package. As for the actual driver package (cnijfilter-ip2600series-2.90-1), I can't find a tarball for, all I have is the RPM already compiled in 32-bit.
Guess there's no help. It is a rather specific problem. I'd like to get this printer working in linux, but I guess when I get paid, I can look into a different printer, one that is compatible.
