can't print using lpr, but can using cups/ooffice/evince

Hey all,

I am trying to get 'lpr' to work in an Ubuntu server install. I installed cupsys and I am now able to print from the cups config page (a test), within openoffice, and within evince. However I still cannot print using lpr. I get the following error:
Code:
lpr: cannot open /var/spool/lpd/hplj4l/.seq: No such file or directory
lpstat also returns no output.

I think that I'm supposed to be printing with lpr-cups, but I cannot find it anywhere in any ubuntu package.

I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks!
George

"lpr: cannot open /var/spool/lpd/hplj4l/.seq: "

Check to see if you have /var/spool/cups but do not have /var/spool/lpd. If that is the case then you are set up to print using cups but not lpr.

Another check is to see what man pages you have installed:
man cups
man lpr
