Camcorder capture to AVI under Linux?

Hi,

I used to use Pinnacle Systems Studio 9 under XP to capture my Sony Handycam DCR-HC14E DV cassettes to the hard disc, then create DVDs, WMVs, MPG4s etc.

Is there an equivalent tool under Linux? I sooooooooo wanto to dump Windows XP, but I need something to rip my home movies with...

Thanks in advance...

Take a look at Kino and Cinelerra. Kino has a nice Firewire interface, and you can save video files from there. Don't know about going to AVI, though, but you can always convert it using ffmpeg after, if you don't get the format you want.
