You can use Unreal Tournament 2004. All 3D games in Linux uses OpenGL instead of DirectX, so comparing the results is useless. You will have to redo the benchmarks using OpenGL to compare Linux to Windows which is a whole different issue that I do not want to get into. However benchmarks are estimates, so do not depend on them too much.

i think that the link to that petition should be in a sticky at the top of the hardware page to bring it to the attention of EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO VISITS THIS SITE that the people of linux will take this no more, the more people on the list the more ATI will se how serious we really are

I also have an ATI but by asking questions and digging into the docs and into my system I managed to make my 9600Pro work pretty well. I rather spend a few more hours in front of my pc in order to figure out what is wrong than spend another penny on a video card (ain't got more ) . Before this I had a GeForce2 and indeed was much less easy to install but...I choose the hard way... for now UT2K works fine on my system and I stick with ATI. (at least for now )

Hi m00t00,

im running Suse 9.1 atm - tried Suse rpms with Sax Setup as well as ATI binary with manual setup, cant even get a fps rate > 500 - info shows that direct rendering is in use, but I dont belive that with this performance....

any hints ?

OpenGL version string: 1.3.4510 (X4.3.0-3.12.0)
OpenGL extensions:

Code:
fglrx 203556 7

EndSection

Option "Clone" "off"
Option "Xinerama" "off"
Screen "Screen[0]"
EndSection

Section "DRI"
Group "video"
Mode 0660
EndSection
I also tried original Suse (Sax generated) configs and fglxconfig - result is ever the same

I downgraded to the Suse build 3.12 drivers and get a fps of 1300 now with glxfears and around 300 with fgl_glxgears, but ut2004 still crashes with

Code:
oliwel@majestix:~> ut2004
WARNING: ALC_EXT_capture is subject to change!
Signal: SIGSEGV [segmentation fault]
Aborting.
I cant find any DRI related settings in the kernel config...so I dont know

hmmm. everything in the configs look ok. /methinks either: 1. something else is wrong thats beyond me... 2. dri is enabled in the kernel. lets hope its #2.

DRI should be under device drivers->character devices, down near the bottom (assuming youre using make menuconfig).

DRI is off, tried gentoo meanwhile (xorg with ati-drivers) problems remain the same, around 1200 fps on glxgears but ut2004 crashes on startup with SIGSEGV....
Will stop trying and boot to Win for playing

THX a lot m00t00
