Blank screen after exiting X-windows
OS: RedHat 7.3
Desktop: GNOME
Hardware: P4-1.6G on Asus P4BLG-VM in 1U Rack-Mount
video: Intel 845GL graphic with shared video RAM
X configuration: VESA 1024x768x16-bit
Note: 845GL driver for Linux is nowhere to be found. Intel says 'just use VESA'!
after logging out from GNOME, the screen just turned blank! got to use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to text prompt, but any attempt (Ctrl+Atl+F7) to swith back to X-windows will only produce blank screen again!
the same X-windows problem also be re-produced at graphic log-in. if I hit Ctrl+Atl+F1 to switch to text log-in, then I can't switch back to graphic screen, it just turns blank!
it seems that whenever I exit X-windows, it can never be brought back because video adapter can't refresh itself.
the only solution so far is to reset and reboot OS.
could this be VESA driver problem? or Intel 845GL video problem?
thanx in advance.
