Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Smile Black screen when switching to VT on nvidia 6200

Hello there,

the problem is, when I run X and switch to any VT I get a black screen with my monitor saying, that "Frequencies are not supported". When I switch back to X everything works fine, but I'm unable to get to the console, when things get messed up.
My configuration:

-nVidia GeForce 6200 AGP 128Mb connected via analog output VGA to LCD Aced 1917
-nVidia Drivers 173.14.12
-Xorg 1.5
-kernel 2.6.26

I'm not using compiz nor framebuffer.

Would really appreciate any help

Thanks,

Tom Nyskelo

Curious: is this an LCD or CRT?
Is the console working before you startx?

Yeah, it's an LCD (Acer 1917) and console is working before I start X.
Guess, you have the same issue?

I had this problem before (a long time ago with an LCD). I think for me it turned out to be a bug/issue with the Nvidia driver. I thought it was resolved? It seemed to help not using any framebuffer (I removed the 'vga' parameter from grub). I know it doesn't help much.
