Bad bluray disks or bad DVD writer?

I bought 8 music CDs and a DVD last year and none of my players were able to read them. Interestingly only the oldest one was working (I mean the CD which was published first). But another player (a new one, which was borrowed from my friend) played all of them perfectly.

There's a reason cd, & dvd drives are going out of fashion. There's a reason blu-ray never caught on well. They too, have much to be modest about. I would go for drives or usb memory sticks as a better option.
