ATI Modility Radeon 540v compatibility

Hello.

I am going to buy a new laptop, namely HP ProBook 6550b WD705EA. And my question is: does its graphic card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 540v works well with Linux? I know that there are open source drivers and proprietary dirvers, my question is about both, I have no ideologic preferences in this question.

Provided that it hasnt got siwtchable graphics, either the closed or open source drivers should work just fine. If its switchable graphics (I dont think it is) then AFAIK the closed drivers wont work and setting up the open source drivers could be.....fun.

BTW, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 540v = ATI Mobility Radeon HD 45XX rebranded.

I´ve just bought this laptop and encountered a serious problem. When I boot it up using Mandriva LiveCD, I see some lines ending with [OK] in text mode, then the screen turns white for a moment, and then I can see nothing on the screen. The backlight of the screen is still on, but nothing is shown. If I attach an external screen before I turn the laptop on, after the [OK] lines the native laptop screen turns off completely (it is not backlit anymore), and the external screen turns on (and everything looks ok at the first glance). I want it to work properly with no external screen. What am I doing wrong?
