Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

I downgraded from the latest BIOS update to the version 901 BIOS update and my system is booting perfectly normal again. I can't believe that Asus would release a garbage BIOS update that forces users to unplug their computer and plug it back in each time they boot. I would advise anyone who updated to the latest update to downgrade to the 901 BIOS version (available at the Asus site).

Cheers.

Opensuse 10.3 is installing as we speak! This still hasn't solved my problems with the Phenom chips but it looks like thats BIOS, and now at least I'm not stuck with Vista!

I will update if this solves problems with ethernet...
I have had partial success installing Debian 4.0 up to the point when the installation program asks for network driver and presents the list of drivers included in that particular distribution. Unfortunatelly, none of them work. All I could do was to skip to the option "install the base system" and that allowed me to install the very minimum. Now there is forcedeth.c file somewhere on the internet, on LinuxHQ site, to be precise. You may have look at that and see if it helps your problem.

Sincerely,

Newer bios versions solved the ethernet problems, and also the sound. The board is generally stable these days...
