ADSL - Ethernet Aztec 600E Connect up to Linspire,Knoppix, and others

I am a newbie to Linux, I download Freespire Linspire, Knoppix, slax ISO Burnt the bootable CD's.

In Israel all ADSL server connection is via Bezeq Wow dialer 8,48 in WinXP.

I have tried to connect through my Ethernet - Aztec 600E modem router according to the Linspire tutorial.

In Linspire, asks me if I am logged in as Administrator (root)? and won't change the configuration to accept DNS or username and password,
and shows Error opening /etc/shaddow for reading on their boot up from CD.

In Knoppix I tried their procedure, it recognised the Ethernet card but didn't connect up looking at the kppp I see it to be for a telephone modem.
Also no go a real run around if ever there was one.

ip: 85.64.xxx.xxx
DNS 212.150.xx.xx
Sec DNS 206.49.xx.xxx

Domain Barak
User Name for WinXP ADSL Wow Dialer: xxxxxx@IBarak
8,48

Anyone know how to give me simple instructions?

I just installed Linux today - and writing you using the very same modem. I used ADSL - PPPoE, and selecting the Lan card. Worked in Mandriva (I tested with MadrakeMove before installing it). Good luck

here's a smarter answer.

after you connect your ADSL (but still get nowhere)

when you do
Code:
ifconfig
you should see
Quote:
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
inet addr:85.64.37.144 P-t-P:62.90.133.69 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1492 Metric:1
RX packets:1533 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:1684 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
RX bytes:847616 (827.7 Kb) TX bytes:264277 (258.0 Kb)
after eth0 and lo. That is the modem.
If you don't see it, configure your adsl script again and tell it to connect.

I simply added that IP as gateway to the net with route
Code:
# route add default gw ${GATEWAY}
change the ${GATEWAY} with the IP of the modem (=ppp0)
