Adjusting X server refresh rates

Hello.

I just installed Fedora Core 4 on a system also running SuSE 9.0. My monitor is a Samsumg SyncMaster 910T.

In SuSE, and with XFree86, I can use the monitor with a refresh rate of 75Hz, in FC4 however all I get is 60Hz.

Now I want to increase the refresh rate in FC4 to 75Hz as well, which I did not manage so far. The relevant lines in SuSE's /etc/X11/XF86Config are:

Section "Monitor"
Option "CalcAlgorithm" "CheckDesktopGeometry"
DisplaySize 320 240
HorizSync 30-81
Identifier "Monitor[0]"
ModelName "1280X1024@75HZ"
VendorName "--> LCD"
VertRefresh 56-75
UseModes "Modes[0]"
EndSection

In FC4's /etc/X11/xorg.conf I have:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Samsung SyncMaster 198T/910T/CX901T (Digital)"
DisplaySize 380 300
HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0
VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

I have spent the last hour playing around with the xorg.conf, pasting in values from SuSE's XF86Config and restarting the X server many times. But no success: My FC4 refresh rate stays glued to 60Hz.

Any ideas what I am missing here?

Thanks,
milvus

Hi Milvus,
I hope this will help you,
$gnome-display-properties

You can modify your system's refresh rate here.

Bye.

Regards,
Satish.

Hi Satish,

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I tried it out. But the only choice in the refresh rate field is 60Hz.
The same is true for krandrtray, by the way.

The problem must be elsewhere, I think.
